What's the secret?
So... what's the secret
The secret to success only seems like a 'secret' when you're not aware of the exact factors that go into achieving success.
"The eternal mystery of the world is its comprehensibility."
-Albert Einstein
To understand success and its secrets you must first define success.
What's the secret to a happy, healthy, abundant life? How do you build loving relationships, (of all kinds: friendship, life partnership, professional, social, etc.) deep and fun friendships, a thriving business, satisfying career, or your dream job, a comfortable life style, inner peace, community involvement, spiritual fulfillment, time for rest and recreation, a sound retirement plan, in general a life of prosperity. Wouldn't you like your life to be like this?
Yes, but how?
Elizabeth Towne, author of How to Grow Success and other writings on self-help and personal develpment, clearly states that:
"[Success] first grows underground. In due time it appears and keeps on unfolding."
She compares success to planting potatoes...yes, potatoes!
You plant potatoes and you know they will grow. You go off and do something else whilst they germinate and sprout.
You can't see them grow but you KNOW they are growing, and whilst you are working away at other things you have a nice little warm glow in your heart, over the fine crop that is coming on out there in the tater patch.
-Elizabeth Towne, 1904
She goes on to encourage us to plant our success, in the same way you would plant potatoes: by preparing your soil, planting your seeds, and trusting your work will pay off in due time.
The Essentials - That's What's the Secret
Four of the 'secrets' to success consists of these essential factors. These are key elements to success, which Mrs. Towne calls 'The Essentials.' Once you understand them and how to achieve them, there is no secret anymore.
1. Good Will 2. An Aim (a Goal) 3. Eternal stick-to-it-ivness, (yes, Elizabeth loved creating new words!) And 4. Concentration
They are explained in more detail in the book, which you can download here.
