Money Exercise
This simple yet powerful money exercise will help you become aware of some of your habitual thoughts about cash, spending it and it's worth. The main purpose is for you to gain self-awareness which will allow you to see money and your relationship to it under a different light and in turn empower you take action in new and creative ways.
Before you begin, read through Part 1 of the exercise first, or have someone read it to you, as you'll be asked to close your eyes for maximum effect and relaxation.
Part 1 Relaxation
Find a comfortable and quiet place where you won't be disturbed or interrupted by phone calls (that includes mobiles), preferably a cozy chair or sofa (not too comfortable, you don't want to fall asleep!) If you have some soft instrumental music to play in backgroud, even better.
Close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths: inhale deeply through nose, mouth closed but relaxed. And exhale slowly through nose again. Repeat this 2 more times, stopping briefly between breaths.
Continue with eyes closed and simply be aware of your body: Your breathing pattern: Is it slow? Is it deep? Is it shallow? Don't change it in any way, simply observe it, without judgement, as an outside observer would.
Listen to your heart. Can you sense its beat? How is it? Has it changed since you began this relaxation? Observe it. Can you sense your body temperature? Are you warm? Are you cold? How is it? Be attentive to it.
What thoughts come to mind? What are you telling yourself right now? Is it easy for you to relax? Is it new? Unfamiliar? How is it? Observe your thoughts as if they were clouds drifting by. Allow them to happen.
When you feel ready take 3 slow deep breaths and begin to slowly open your eyes.
Part 2 The Blank Check
For this part of the exercise, get a notebook to write on and a pencil or pen. A blank sheet of paper will do. However, I highly recommend you keep a notebook or journal for upcoming exercises. You can refer to them later and learn immensely as you grow in prosperity awareness.
With notebook and pencil in hand close your eyes for a moment and imagine you are given a blank check... yes, a BLANK CHECK, no strings attached, none.
You can write the check to the amount you desire, read this carefully, NO LIMITS. How much are you going to write the check for? Pay close attention to you inner dialogue, this is where your inner treasure lies - your inner truth.
How much do you want? How much do you need? How much is enough? How much is plenty? How much is more than plenty? Why a certain amount? Why not more? What is holding you back? What are you telling yourself?
Can you hear your Mother speaking to you? Perhaps, your Father or some other adult? What do YOU want? In your mind imagine: What are you doing with the money? Investing? Splurging? Living it up? Giving to charity? Church? Vacationing? Traveling abroad? Going back to school? Helping family members? Starting a business? Buying a home? A car? Setting up a college fund for your children? Partying? Remember, there are no right or wrong answers. Only YOUR honest answers. Please do not judge yourself, but if you hear yourself do so, listen carefully, there are clues in your self-judgments that can be very helpful to unravel your subconscious messages.
Take your time. Allow this money exercise to open the flood gates of your thoughts AND feelings! When you feel ready, write out your check in your notebook, just as you do in your checkbook. Make it real. Date, write it out to you - your full name, write the amount in numbers and letters and sign it.
Part 3 Using Your Money
Now, below your check write out how you are using it - all of the amount. You must use the ENTIRE amount. You may not leave any amount unused. You have 10 minutes to complete this part. Time yourself and come back when your 10 minutes are up.
Done? Ok, now comes the best part. Remember your up most honesty will yield incredible insight as how you relate to money - but most importantly - how you receive and give. This is the core of the energy we give money.
Now look at your list. Read it out loud to yourself. (You can also do this exercise with a close friend, someone you trust and is genuinely interested in self-discovery and growth). Reading it out loud allows you to hear your words coming out from your mouth - you usually have already expressed similar desires before, anyway. Reading them NOW makes them more accessible to you awareness.
Pause between each item on your list. Meditate (or comment with your friend) what this means to you. What does this item tell you about yourself? Your values, your priorities, your desires? Remember: do not judge yourself. Compassion, understanding and empathy towards yourself is what works best.
You may want to give yourself a few seconds to silently take each item in - to heart, allowing it to penetrate your awareness.
