Cycle of Experience
Understanding the cycle of experience. Cycle of experience is simply a way of understanding how we process events in our life.
Learning how your feelings, thoughts and actions fit in the law of attraction will help you succeed in whatever endeavor you chose to pursue, small or big.
Here I'll explain the process in a very easy way to understand what we normally go through during each experience, be it, feeling hungry or going through a grieving process. We go through this process everyday, many, many times during its course. The purpose of illustrating the cycle of experience is so that it becomes easier for you to identify each step of the process and to help you become aware of which steps seem easy or harder for you. This way, through increased awareness, you can begin to get unstuck and flow more easily with every experience you have. Processing your day-to-day events in much healthier ways attracting to your life what you truly desire - thus the law of attraction in action! Mrs. Towne may not have explained it in these same terms, but many of her writings, unknowingly, support this concept.
- Perception
- Thought
- Feeling
- Intention
- Action

Here's a simple example of how you go through the entire process from start to finish whenever you are hungry! Perception
Let's say that you notice your stomach is making noises. You can also sense something is moving inside your belly. You might even experience a slight headache.
Thought
"Ah," you say to yourself: "My stomach is growling." This is the thought you have in response to what you've just perceived, it is the 'meaning' you give to what you perceived, in this case, within your body. You "attach" a meaning to your perception, you give it an interpretation. Our thoughts at first are unconscious, by default. But by practicing self-observation when going through the cycle of experience, you can begin to turn your unconscious thoughts into conscious ones.
Feeling
You may notice that you begin to feel nervous. The whole process is a bit more complex than this, of course and each person is different. There are usually more interpretations / thoughts going on at the same time.
Someone may feel anxious, if they are trying to lose weight and are not certain on what to eat or how much to eat in order to attain their best figure or they may tend to suppress feeling with eating, etc. But for the purpose of this example I'll keep it simple.
You may begin to think: "Where can I get something to eat? I need to get some food in my stomach quick before I feel faint." If you don't follow through, by actually eating some food, you might even get in a grouchy mood or even upset. Babies do this all the time!
Intention
All your energy is now focused towards getting some food to eat - your intention or motivation.
Action
So you actually walk over to the kitchen, open the refrigerator, choose something to eat and put it in your mouth, chew it and swallow it. This is the action part of the whole process. You have now completed the cycle and your "need" (your hunger) is satisfied. This final step is where you bring all the pieces together.
Like-wise, when you leave one or several of the steps out you stay stuck - you stunt your personal growth. The result might be anywhere from procrastination (not getting into action), ill-will (the opposite of aligned will or goodwill - intention) all the way to traumas or phobias, big and small. But with your needs satisfied you easily move on (flow) to the next experience.
This a very simple example just to illustrate the power of the perception-thought-feeling-intention-action connection.
When our thoughts and feelings are in harmony with the desire, (intention) then the action necessary will come naturally and easily to us - and it will be much less action than we might have thought would be required.
