Hello and welcome to...

The Nautilus Ezine

Self-Help Through Self-Knowledge

The Nautilus Shell

"Build thee more stately mansions, oh my soul!
As the swift seasons roll! Leave thy low vaulted past!
Let each new temple nobler than the last,
Shut thee from heaven with a dome more vast,
Till thou at length art free,
Leaving thine outgrown shell by life's unresting sea!"

-Oliver Wendell Holmes

Welcome to The Nautilus Ezine July 2009 Issue.

To the readers that have been with us from the beginning - welcome back. And to our new readers - great to have you join us!

First and foremost, to my readers who are using text to read this ezine, for some reason the links in text format are getting cut into 2 parts.

So if you can switch your email settings to receive email in HTML format, please do, otherwise you'll have to copy and paste the links. Sorry for this inconvenience, but for now this is the most viable solution.

Ok, with that out of the way, let's continue.

In this issue:

1. Favorite Quote of the Month.
2. Relax, it's summer time. Take this opportunity to pace yourself, smell the roses and boost your inner joy!
3. Watch this amazing video. It reminds me that we truly are connected.

Update: July 28, 2008.I got permission by Oriah to publish her poem... Read The Invitation by Oriah Mountain Dreamer below!

1. Favorite Quote from How to Grow Success

My favorite quote this month is:

You are not a separate and distinct creation rolling around loose in the world. You are part of The Whole - a part that has its own peculiar position and uses in the economy of The Whole, and in all creation there is not, never has been and never will be, a duplicate of you.

Yes, we are unique and by our connected nature we are also One and the same... a paradox...

The Whole travails in pain until you are satisfied and satisfying: until YOU fit in and glory in your fitness and beauty.

All the universe bestirs itself to help you fit in and be happy. All the beauty of the universe is pressing OUT through you into expression. All things that you desire are welling up within you, pressed upward by a ceaseless and almighty urge that CANNOT be gainsaid.

-Elizabeth Towne
How to Grow Success, Chapter VII, page 18

What's your favorite quote? Let me know. Drop me a quick note and I will include it in an upcoming issue of The Nautilus.

2. Summer is here!

Now that summer is here, take this time to change pace and boost your inner energy and joy. How?

Here are a few ways to bring beauty into your life...

All the beauty of the universe is pressing OUT through you into expression.

One thing I love doing in the summer is to sit out, if it's not too hot outside, and read a book. If you have a porch cuddle outside on a bench, lawn chair or on a hammock under a tree. Enjoy a cool glass of tea or lemonade and read your favorite book.

I'd like to recommend one I'm reading now, The Dance - Moving to the Rhythms of Your True Self, by Oriah Mountain Dreamer. Oriah is also the author of her famous poem The Invitation. I really enjoy the easy writing style. In a gentle way she nudges me to look inside, willingly, and explore my inner self. I think you will enjoy her too.

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

Another great idea for this time of year is what I call cloud imagining. I'm sure you did this as a kid. Well you can do it again! Lie on your back, either on the grass or on a sandy beach and watch the clouds float by. If you have children, do it with them, they will spark your adult imagination into action. Imagine objects, animals or anything you fancy from the clouds' shape.

What do you see? Imagine your wildest visions! An elephant, a yo-yo, a tree, Aunt Betsy... you are the creator of your vision. Have fun and remember to laugh!

3. We are Unique Beings

Each of us is different and at the same time we are one and the same. If we look a little deeper we can discover both qualities - different yet alike.

What do I mean? We all experience the same basic needs, feelings, desires and have dreams for our life.

As the quote below reads:

You are not a separate and distinct creation rolling around loose in the world. You are part of The Whole...

Watch this amazing video by Philip Scott Johnson and see how across time we are one and the same!
